What ultrasonic cleaning actually does to a dirty blind
Most window treatments that look finished are not finished. They are filthy in places a cloth has never reached — and the fix costs a fraction of replacing them.
We have been cleaning window treatments since 1998, which is longer than we have been selling them. In that time the single most common thing we hear on a first visit is some version of: we were about to replace these.
Sometimes replacing is right. Far more often the product is structurally fine and simply filthy in a way that no amount of dusting will touch.
Why a cloth does not work
Think about where dirt actually sits. On a honeycomb shade it is inside the cells. On a Roman shade it is in the fold. On a sheer shading it is in the pocket behind the vane. On a vertical in a kitchen it is a bonded film of aerosolised cooking oil that has been baking onto the vane for a decade.
A cloth cleans the face of a slat. It cannot get inside a cell, and wiping a delicate fabric shade hard enough to shift bonded film is how people destroy them.
What the tank does instead
The piece is submerged in a tank of cleaning solution and high-frequency sound waves are passed through the liquid. Those waves generate microscopic bubbles throughout the solution, which then collapse against every surface they touch — including every surface inside a honeycomb cell, behind a vane and inside a fold.
The collapse is what does the work. It lifts dirt off the material mechanically, at a scale small enough to reach places nothing physical can, and without anything abrasive touching the fabric. That is why it is safe on exactly the products you are most nervous about: pleated and honeycomb shades, Vignettes, Luminettes, Silhouettes, woven woods, verticals and venetians.
The colour comes back
The thing that surprises people is not that the blinds get clean. It is the colour. Dust and film flatten a fabric’s tone gradually enough that you stop noticing — and because it happens to every blind in the house at the same rate, there is nothing to compare against. Clean one and hang it next to the others and the difference is not subtle.
On-site or at the shop
For a house, we normally take the work back to Carol Stream. For office buildings, banks and medical suites where the blinds genuinely cannot leave, we bring the mobile unit to your lot and do it there — often getting everything back up the same day. That service is how the business started.
While it is down, we fix it
Blinds that are off the window are the cheapest blinds to repair. Frayed cords, cord locks that will not hold, stiff tilt mechanisms, loose brackets, a headrail that has gone out of level — all of it is far easier to deal with on a bench than on a ladder. We handle the repair in the same visit.
And if we look at what you have and conclude it genuinely is finished, we will tell you that too. Cleaning something that should be replaced helps nobody.
