Cleaning & repair

Before you replace them,
let us clean them.

Hang & Shine began in 1998 as an ultrasonic blind cleaning company, and we still run the tank. Most window treatments that look finished are not — they are just filthy in places a cloth cannot reach.

What it is

Sound waves, not scrubbing

A cloth cleans the face of a slat. It does not clean the inside of a honeycomb cell, the fold of a Roman shade, the pocket behind a vane or the twenty years of kitchen film bonded to a vertical.

Ultrasonic cleaning works differently. The piece is submerged in solution and high-frequency sound waves generate microscopic bubbles throughout the liquid. Those bubbles collapse against every surface they touch, including surfaces no hand can reach, and lift the dirt off. Nothing abrasive goes near the fabric, which is why it is safe on the products you are most afraid to touch.

The cheapest upgrade in the house

A full clean typically costs a fraction of replacing custom-built window treatments — and the originals were measured for your windows.

On-site service

We bring the tank to you

For office buildings, banks, medical suites and larger properties, taking every blind off site is not practical. So we do not. The mobile unit parks in your lot and the work happens there — blinds come down, go through the tank, and go back up the same day wherever possible.

It is the service the business was built on in 1998, and it is still what most of our commercial customers call us for.

Repairs

Most of what breaks is fixable

Custom window treatments are expensive to replace and surprisingly cheap to repair. Before you write anything off, let us look at it.

Cords & cord locks

Frayed lift cords, cords that will not lock, cords that have snapped entirely.

Tilt mechanisms

Wands that spin without tilting, stiff tilters, broken gears in the headrail.

Slats & vanes

Cracked slats, missing vanes, verticals that have come off their carriers.

Headrails & brackets

Shades sagging at one end, brackets working loose, headrails out of level.

If your Hunter Douglas product is still within warranty, we handle that too — warranty support starts with your original dealer, and we are a dealer whether or not you bought it from us.

Cleaning questions

Asked and answered

How does ultrasonic cleaning work?

Blinds are lowered into a tank of cleaning solution and high-frequency sound waves generate microscopic bubbles throughout the liquid. Those bubbles collapse against every surface — including the inside of honeycomb cells and the gaps around slats — lifting dust, grease and nicotine film without scrubbing. Nothing abrasive touches the fabric.

Is it safe for delicate shades?

That is the point of it. There is no brushing and no pressure, which is why it works on products you cannot safely wipe: honeycomb and pleated shades, Vignettes, Luminettes, Silhouettes and woven woods. We assess each piece before it goes in, and we will tell you if something is too far gone.

Do you clean on site or take them away?

Both, depending on the job. We run a mobile service for offices and larger properties where blinds cannot leave the building, and we also take work back to the shop in Carol Stream. We will recommend whichever is less disruptive for you.

What can you repair?

Cords and cord locks, tilt mechanisms, headrails, brackets, broken slats and vanes, and restringing. A repair is very often a fraction of the cost of replacing a custom-built shade — and if it is not, we will say so rather than take the work.

Will you work on blinds you did not sell?

Yes. Cleaning and repair is where this company started, and most of what comes through the shop was bought somewhere else. Brand does not matter.

How often should blinds be cleaned?

It depends enormously on the room. A kitchen or a south-facing living room collects film far faster than a spare bedroom. As a rule of thumb, if the colour looks flat compared with the day you bought them, they are ready.
